Two Days Isn't Too Far Behind

A bear explains hibernation to its cub
“Deep rest? Why do we do that?”
“Because life is unbearable enough, why be conscious for the worst three months of the year?”

Fortnight/Fort Night
For two weeks I was going through a crisis
And I didn’t know it.
And no news team came to write about it.
My own self wouldn’t allow it.
It was as if my brain had a mind of its own
And it told channel 12 to beat it.
I want live and local, brain!
Now's not the time to get vocal, brain.
My brain's mind can't understand
there are moments in life
that can make you feel so undeniably alive.
Don't worry, I don't know what that means either.
But it's like those mornings seeing pale blue
blowing in from over the treeline
winding up on my white paint window sill
a bittersweet tweet reminder that the sun came back
I guess I wasn't sure it would. That morning
the stark taste of summer's last dying breath rolled-in slow, dim
Butterflies from every first day of school in my life came to
carry me to fresh crayola box exceptional essence
with 24 pristine cylinders
waiting to be tarnished by my untamed tentacle fingers
Evidently, that thought gave me enough comfort to let sleep come
Fort building, like a kid.
falling asleep in it.
Even then I hated waking up.

Homonym Homily
the messy Marquette Interchange
of congested, polluted pathways
of neuronal discord we've all been weaving for close to two decades.
It takes two to tango with these tangles
so I say we take out the doubt so some substance can sprout.
Starting clean slate.
And from now on I will take nothing for granite
(Granted,
undoing these knots will not be for naught, and god willing relieve the tension so I can bridge the golden gated suspension
community I was brought up in).
Christ,to think of all those uptight, high-strung poor old bastards.
They've always been taught taught taught to keep themselves
taut taut taut
and what God wrought wrought wrought
will one day rot rot rot away
and SNAP
Did you bring the map,
money,
cellphone,
pager? I barely know 'er. But those eyes read like Judy Bloom.
I prayed to Jesus that some day soon
my savage ears could one day prey on your infinitely wise
but otherwise inaudible infallible frequency.
I don't have eyes but I'm seeing now that you saw some potential in me. I slipnslide collide into a high sea of Blazin' Blueberry horse play word play Hi-C
Poseidon will ride in on his sea horse horsey
And I wont groan, after he has grown
20,000 leagues above sea Level
of His wrath is swelling, but outside his aquatic dwelling
He's powerless against me
Up here in the Ozone Thunderdome
(O)3 will fend off ultra-violet fighter pilots
for purple mountain majesties.
I'll be relaxed and carefree
On the day I finally see the silver lining
of my proverbial cloud nine-
teen years of age.

Watch Out For the Fruit Flies
We had seven mangoes once
The fruit flies didn’t even get to eat one
‘cause I ate them all
I ate them all
And tomorrow when I get home from work, I’m going to get some more.

STOP THINK
Stop, think.
Stop to think.
Why do I feel like I've seen the future?
How are some things so familiar?
Am I just smart enough to know I'm not?
Am I only competent enough to fail?
My brain is unique
No one thinks my thoughts the way I think them.
Does that make me living?
Do we live through pain?
Do we live through a pane?
We are balls of energy
attracted and pulled apart by an unknown
holy force. I don't want to understand fate.
Why can't I be blissfully unaware and highly functioning at the same time?
I want my brain to slow down.
I want my brain to speed up.
