Except from Heaven #1

a blackbox recorder
would've remembered us better

I see

the chewed off head
of a babysitter

the stars and the stripes

and our laughter
struck across the neighborhood

***
During the Lord's Prayer
Irene would take smoke breaks

Grace and I stood alone
in the quiet of the rectory

watching crows
fly into the glass

  1. i know i already said that i think this piece is amazing, but since no one else has spoken up I find it necessary to repeat myself. this is amazing. i dont know what it is, the subtle narrative, the contradiction you bring up between youth and adulthood, it's just really great.
